Mohammed Abubakar on Thursday took over the reign of power from Hafiz Ringim as Inspector-General of Police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
He arrived the Loius Edet House at about 12.32pm and performed his first assignment by inspecting the guard of honour at the gate. From there he proceeded to the 7th floor office of the IG where he spent over two hours in a closed door meeting with his predecessor, Mr. Hafiz Ringim.
Addressing senior officers of the Force after the closed door meeting, the acting IG declared his readiness to combat crime in the country and corruption within the Police, pledging to lead by example.
The Police boss said, “We shall fight crime in all its ramifications, crime and criminality. It’s all under criminality, whatever name you give it, if it is Boko Haram or armed robbery, we shall all fight crime in all its ramifications.”
He added that he was not new to the challenges before the police, saying that he would want to be briefed first before unveiling his plans.
“I’m indeed delighted today, may the Almighty God see us through. I don’t have enough speech because I’m taking over. I want to be fully briefed about the challenges and the difficulties facing the NPF today. I’m not a newcomer and I cannot run away from it but I do know the fact that we have a very challenging task and I want to assure all Nigerians that this administration will be different from every other administration because every officer and men of the police belong to the same family.
“We shall go every nook and cranny of this country and do what is expected of us in fighting crime. This administration will not tolerate any act of indiscipline, corruption and I intend to leave good example.
“Training is one programme we are lacking. We are giving police college and training institution a very serious challenge to be able to train officers and men of the police force.”
Abubakar will meet with the force high command today to brainstorm on measures to ensure discipline within the rank and file and other security challenges in the country.
