As the country celebrates her 52nd anniversary, the Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Hope Eghagha, and his family might not be joining in the celebration as the commissioner has been kidnapped by yet to be identified gunmen. Information also has it that his security aide was killed in the process, while his driver, who was hit by bullet, is receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.
According to the Vanguard the commissioner was abducted at Abavo, Sunday, on his way from Warri for the 52nd independence anniversary thanksgiving in Asaba, the Delta State capital. Sources reported that the official Prado jeep of Prof Eghagha, riddled with bullets of the suspected kidnappers, was abandoned alongside his mobile phones.
Meanwhile, it is believed that the suspected kidnappers are yet to establish contact with Eghagha’s family.
Delta State Police Public Relations Officers, Mr. Charles Muka, has also confirmed the incident, saying that the suspected kidnappers trailed Prof. Eghagha from Warri in a Toyota Camry car. The police spokesperson added that the armed men intercepted the official vehicle, shooting indiscriminately into the car, killing the police aide, Mr. Innocent Odah, a police Sergeant, and sped off with Prof. Eghagha in their car. He said the police was on top the situation.

The true test of a man’s mettle and integrity, is when he is willing to wade into the water and take stand against what he has been criticising. Prof. Eghagha is a decent gentleman, an academia of no mean repute, a kind of man to ONLY be admired. If you had any kind of education at all you would appreciate that. you sound like an illiterate. you probably ‘stowayed’ your way into Ireland, try killing someone there if you are so bloodthirsty and let then dismember you and send your vital parts to your miserable family.
